Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win an Academy Award for ‘Best Director’ has women in the industry worldwide fist-pumping and high-five-ing in this historic moment. She walked away with not one, but two awards – the second being for ‘Best Picture‘ for The Hurt Locker – at the ceremony last night, beating both Avatar and former husband James Cameron.
Congratulations, Kathryn. Here’s to more similar wins down the line!

As a communications/media person, do you really think she deserved Best Picture? I honestly think Cameron deserved it!
To be honest, I thought Avatar was moving, visually stunning, and took us on an amazing adventure into a whole new world. It definitely re-defined the way movies are made. However, I’ve not actually watched The Hurt Locker because the war genre isn’t very appealing to me. I can’t make a substantial argument without having seen both films though.
The entry was more about celebrating the first female winner for ‘Best Director’, especially because it’s a hugely male-dominated industry. I realize I should have elaborated more on that.
Appreciate your response though! Hope to hear more from you, Owen. :)
